After trying a succession of 'normal' jobs, moving to Somerset, getting married to Janet in 1975 and fathering two children, Caroline born in 1979 and Melanie arriving in 1982, the pull of the stage proved too strong and Professor Popcorn was created.

A lifelong interest in magic and an uncontrollable urge to show off were perfect ingredients for success and a classified advert in the local rag set the phones ringing in the Popcorn household.
Now 20 years later with Janet answering the phone and looking after the diary and Steve 'doing the shows' the Professor Popcorn Show is seen and enjoyed by thousands of children and their grown ups across Somerset, Dorset and Devon.

For several years the Professor was accompanied by 'TRUMPER' the famous Somerset County Gazette Elephant before he moved on to work with Nigel the Magician.A plaque featuring 'TRUMPER' and Professor Popcorn is on permanent display in the foyer of The Brewhouse Theatre & Arts Centre in Taunton,Somerset.
